How the calculator works

Each estimate is weight × spot price per gram × purity × buyback rate. Spot price comes live from gold-api.com (USD per troy ounce, converted to per gram using 1 oz = 31.1034768 g).

Silver purity reference

Silver purity is given as a decimal fraction (the "millesimal fineness"). The calculator uses standard hallmark values:

Why 60–80% buyback rates?

US silver scrap buyers typically pay 60–80% of the metal value — a narrower and lower range than gold because silver's lower value per gram makes refining, assay, and handling a bigger share of the cost. Refiners and coin dealers sit near the top of the range; pawn shops and mall kiosks sit near the bottom. 70% is a useful mid-market target when comparing offers.

Estimates are indicative only. Actual offers vary by buyer, testing method, lot size, and market conditions. Numismatic and antique pieces may be worth substantially more than their melt value. The shown spot price may lag the true market by up to 60 seconds due to caching.
